Configuring Bills of Materials for Kits

Concept

A bill of material (BOM) is a listing of all the subassemblies, parts, and raw materials that are needed to produce one unit of finished product. BOMs include the relationships and quantities between parent and component items. Each finished product that has been assembled from subassemblies, parts, or raw materials has a BOM.

You must enter a BOM to specify how to assemble kit components to create the parent item. By entering a BOM, you provide the system with information, such as:

• The feature items and options that are included with the kit.

• The feature items that are optional.

• The number of items that you need to assemble the kit.

To enter a BOM, you must set up your inventory kit and enter each level in the kit separately.

Procedure

In this task, you will set up a BOM for a kit parent using the items previously created and set up a BOM for the feature items.
